NEW HAVEN (AP) --
The U.S. Attorney's office says it has
closed its corruption investigation in Shelton.
Developer James Botti was sentenced to six years in prison in 2010 on tax
and mail fraud charges related to bribes given to members of the town's
planning and zoning board.
The government
also had alleged that Botti had bribed Mayor Mark Lauretti, but a jury deadlocked on those counts and Lauretti was never charged.
Thomas Carson, a
spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office, told the New Haven Register Tuesday that the case
is now closed.
The mayor, who is
now a seeking signatures to get onto the Republican primary ballot as a
candidate for lieutenant governor, says he was frustrated by the investigation,
but knew he would "stand the test of time."
